What is financial planning?

Financial planning is a process of meeting your life goals through the proper management of your finances. It focuses on the individual- all the financial and psychological factors that impact a person’s life.

What is the difference between financial advice and financial planning?

Financial advice comes in many forms and from many sources. Your accountant may offer tax advice; or your lawyer suggest estate planning tips. A professional financial planner, on the other hand, thoroughly reviews and analyses all of the aspects of your financial state to achieve financial security in the long term.

How do I know if I need financial planning?

People consult a financial planner for many reasons. Here are a few questions that will help you determine if you need financial planning:

- Do you have the time and the knowledge to take care of all your financial needs?

- Does conflicting financial advice from several sources confuse you?

- Do you know how and would you like to pay less taxes?

- Do you know the best ways to invest your hard earned money?

- Do you feel like you are struggling with your money?

- Are you finding it difficult to save your money?

- Have there been any recent changes in your life that change your financial situation?

How do I know if a financial planner is qualified to help me?

Not everyone who uses the title “Financial Planner” is a Certified Financial Planner TM. A Certified Financial Planner TM is an individual who has been educated in, examined for, and has experience in all aspects of financial planning. This person agrees to adhere to a strict code of conduct known as the CFPTM Code of Ethics. This person has also made a lifelong commitment to keep technical skills and knowledge current. They are required to continue their education (30 hours per year).
